Take the time to help your kids learn to ride safely and have
fun.
It’s Almost Vacation Time
Things to do before you leave for vacation:
- Be
sure your neighbor has the name and telephone number of your insurance
agent or the 800 number.
- Inform as few people as possible of
your vacation plans. This includes newspaper and postal delivery people,
unless you are going to be gone for an extended period.
- Ask a
trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your home while you are gone and to
report any suspicious or criminal activity to the police department.
- Be
sure a neighbor has telephone numbers, a key and your itinerary to
contact you and an emergency contact person.
- Ask a neighbor to
place a full trash can at your curb on pick up days.
- Ask
neighbors to occasionally park in your driveway.
- Check your
police department regarding free vacation check of your home.
- Turn
water off at the street to avoid possible water damage from a broken
pipe or leak in the house.
- Ask your neighbor to pick up your
mail, newspaper and other deliveries.
- Consider your lawn
service coming while you are gone or have someone mow to keep your home
looking lived in.
- Use automatic timers on a radio and lamps to
simulate occupancy. Set these for your normal routine. For instance, a
radio and lamp in the living room might be on from dusk until 10:00 PM,
and then at 10:00 PM a lamp goes on in the bedroom and off at midnight.
- Keep shrubs in front of low windows trimmed down.
- Be
sure all doors and windows are locked before you leave.
- Do not
change the message on your answering machine. Check it often or have
someone check your messages while you are away.
- Do not hide a
spare key under a doormat, on top of a door overhang or in a potted
plant.
